Biography


Rose completed a BA Hons. in Theatre Studies at Lancaster University followed by an MA in Performance Practices and Research at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. She worked for several years as an actor in theatre and film and applied arts practitioner taking arts interventions into education, health and social care, community, and criminal justice settings. 

Meanwhile, she studied Psychology at the Open University and assisted on a Leverhulme/ University of Surrey project interviewing the UK's centenarians about their lives. Rose went on to combine these areas of interest though a fully-funded PhD in Psychology at Kingston University where she examined the effects of engagement with fictional stories on empathy and other social cognitive abilities. 

While writing up her thesis she was appointed Lecturer in Psychology at UAL  (August 2019) and, subsequently, she took on the role of Acting Course Leader of the BPS-accredited BSc Hons. Psychology of Fashion  (June 2020). Rose's PhD was conferred in July 2020 and she obtained Chartered Psychologist status in October 2020. 

Following maternity leave, Rose left her full-time role at UAL and currently works at The Open University as well as providing ad. hoc. lecturing and supervision across institutions including UAL and Imperial. She continues to conduct research exploring cognition and arts-engagement, and to develop her interests in research methods and statistics.
